All roads lead to Rome
THRISSUR: Ever since the Vatican announced the canonization of Sr Euphrasia, devotees have been thronging her tomb at St Mary’s convent, Ollur, near here.
But it is not the first time that Sr Stenny Grace, Mother Superior of the convent has been witnessing devotees all over the place. As the name indicates, ‘Euphrasia’ is a classical herb which strengthens the brain and is used for curing several cerebral ailments. “Yes, the majority of those who come to her tomb to seek blessings are students”, says Sr Grace.
The chapel that housed the tomb was a popular pilgrim centre much before Sr Euphrasia was named Servant of God by the Church, said Sr Cleopatra,
Mother of St Mary’s Convent. She was considered a saint by her fellow nuns and the people of Ollur long before the Church took the decision to canonize her.
She spent her entire life in prayers and was an epitome of sacrifice. Many miracles had been attributed to Sr Euphrasia even when she was alive, said Sr Cleopatra. She said she was lucky to have been with Sr Euphrasia at St Mary’s Convent.
With just a day left for the canonization, the number of people who have left for the Vatican to attend the ceremony has crossed around 600. This includes around 100 priests and about 80 nuns.
