Techie turned thief held
Hyderabad: An engineering graduate turned thief was arrested by the police on Friday. The accused Mella Seenaiah Sundar, 28, came to the city in search of work, but took to crime.
Taking the cue from the Tollywood movie Athadu he committed burglaries by breaking locks with a bolt cutter. Cops said Sundar is involved in about 38 cases and they recovered booty worth Rs 27 lakh.
Mella Seenaiah Sundar completed B.Tech (ECE). Police said Sundar initially stayed with his cousin Kishore Babu at his house in KPHB Colony, and later took a room on rent at Ameerpet in Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar. He is addicted to smoking, liquor and used to spend lavishly on girlfriends and movies.
“After seeing Athadu in which a theft was committed using a bolt cutter, he picked up the idea. He searched for a bolt cutter on the Net and purchased two from Moosapet,” said Mr G. Vijaykumar, the detective SI, KPHB.
He started stealing laptops, gold and silver from locked houses. "He sets out with a bag to survey locked houses, especially where techies live. If locals ask he used to say that he had come to meet a friend,” cops said.
Cops arrested him while he was moving suspiciously with a laptop bag containing bolt cutters at Dhanalakshmi Center in KPHB.
He confessed during interrogation. The Cops recovered 59 laptops, 472 grams of gold and 443 grams of silver worth Rs 27 lakh from him. He was remanded.
