Naveen is here to stay
Skilful editing is very important for any film. Even with a good story, once shooting is complete, it is the film’s editor who ensures that the movie is presented well.
There are a few popular names in this department, and now several youngsters with innovative ideas have made their presence felt. The recent promo of the Rajinikanth-starrer Lingaa, which is going viral on social media, has been edited by N. Naveen.
“For any film, the trailer is very important. I am lucky that I got to work on the Lingaa trailer,” says Naveen adding, “A promo should hint at the story, tell enough to kindle interest and bring the audience back for the full film. A successful promo needs the editor to be very creative,” says Naveen.
Naveen was born and raised in Hyderabad and joined a news channel after his graduation. There he made some promos for the channel and then slowly started working on his own for many advertisements.
“I edited Mahesh Babu’s Santoor and Virat Kohli’s Celkon advertisements,” he says. He worked on hundreds of advertisements and also helped in many films.
Naveen’s first break came with Govindudu Andarivaadele. Director Krishna Vamsi, who always thinks differently, spotted Naveen’s talent and gave him an opportunity.
“This is my first break as a film editor,” says Naveen. Impressed by his work, director K.S. Ravi Kumar asked him to make the promo for Lingaa.
“The director and Rajinikanth sir were impressed with my work,” he says. With that Naveen got another big opportunity as K.S. Ravi Kumar asked him to join him in Chennai for the film’s editing. “It is a great experience to work with a director like him.”
Now, Naveen is working on Madhura Sridhar’s film and a Malayalam film. He may sign on two Hindi films too. “Editing is the key for any film and you can turn an average film into a hit with editing. That’s why the film’s director and editor should always work in tandem,” he says.
