Personal enmity suspected behind murder of a Manipuri PhD scholar in Delhi

Bengaluru/ New Delhi: Adding to the increasing number of crimes against people from northeast, a 33-year-old PhD scholar from Manipur was found murdered in his South Delhi’s home while a Manipuri youth was allegedly assaulted by three unidentified drunk men when he tried to rescue a girl whom they were harassing Kothanur area in Bengaluru.

Keashung Zingram Kengoo had completed his PhD from the TISS. He had come to Delhi just a month ago and lived in a room situated on the second floor of apartment F27/481 in the narrow, police said. He was searching for a job and used to write for a research journal.

The incident came to light around 9.45 pm when the tenants who lived at the third floor of the house found the door of his room ajar and a stream of blood flowing out of it.

A murder case has been registered.

Meanwhile, three men, who were passing lewd comments on a girl in Bengaluru, were confronted by a Manipuri youth who was passing by. As the trio persisted with their misbehaviour, the 21-year-old youth, an undergraduate student at a city college, warned them against it, following which they allegedly assaulted him, police said. The youth, who suffered head injuries, was taken to a hospital by the passersby.

Police said the culprits would be nabbed soon.

In another such incident in New Delhi, a 23-year-old youth hailing from Manipur was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his home in Malviya Nagar.
