Extension raises hopes
Hyderabad: With extension of the Hyderabad Metro Rail being considered by the Telangana government, residents of LB Nagar and Nagole Crossroads are hopeful that the stretch left out in the first phase will be completed. The 3 km stretch has been left out and the Metro begins again from Dilsukhnagar.
As LB Nagar has a large number of housing colonies, residential complexes and also commercial establishments, from where many people commute to either Secunderabad or Hyderabad locals had been urging their public representatives to get the Metro Rail till LB Nagar.
Mr Anji Reddy, secretary of Cooperative Bank Colony at LB Nagar said, “Our local leaders as well as public representatives had petitioned four years ago to take the Metro till LB Nagar but it was not considered.
If the connection would have been established in the first phase, travel to Secunderabad and even Hyderabad would have been easy for lakh of people who live here. We are now hoping that this stretch will be considered in the second phase.”
With the Metro operating till Dilsukhnagar, the connection between the two cities is missing.
Officials meanwhile said that the earlier plan was drafted from Nagole due to various technical reasons. A senior officer said, “We have three bridges going over the Musi River.
Hence the connectivity from Nagole to LB Nagar stretch had to be properly studied before taking the decision.”
Meanwhile HMR identifies 283 sites for road widening
The Hyderabad Metro Rail has identified 283 properties for road widening in three Metro Rail corridors, said HMR managing director N.V.S. Reddy on Thursday.
In a review meeting with senior officers of the police, traffic and transport departments, Mr Reddy pointed out that the situation was very critical and these properties must be acquired for the smooth flow of traffic in the Metro corridors.
Meanwhile Chief Secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma has given the GHMC till the end of December 2014 to complete the acquisition process of critical properties.
