AP land pooling: Small farmers hit most by land pooling

The state government proposes to pool 30,000 acres in the capital area

Hyderabad: In the proposed capital city area, a majority of farmers have below five acres of land. The Andhra Pradesh government has collected data of 25 villages in the capital area.

Of 25 villages 18 are in Tullur mandal, four villages are in Mangalagiri mandal and three villages are in Tadepalli mandal. The total land in 25 villages is 56,898.23 acres and there are 22,404 farmers. The data collected by the government said the number of farmers holding land of five acres and above are 1,123 (5.01%), between four to five acres: 882 (3.93%), between three to four acres: 1,575 (7.02%) between two to three acres: 2,987(13.33%), between one and to two acres: 5,918 (26.41%), between 0.5 to one acre: 5,534 (24.70%) and farmers holding land less than half acre are 4,444 (19.84 %).

The government proposes to pool 30,000 acres in the capital area. In the proposed land pooling system a majority of small and marginal farmers will be affected. In the 25 villages the number of households is 41,677 and the total population is 1,52,361.

Of the total population SCs comprise 42,076 people, STs: 7,370 and the rest account for 1,02,915. In these 25 villages 6,426 persons are homeless. Among the total of 22,404 farmers SC farmers account for 2,356 and ST farmers: 174.

Occupation wise there are 12,319 cultivators, 39,509 are agriculture labourers, 1,697 are household workers, 16,654 are other workers. In these 25 villages nature of land available is 40,094.23 acres, which are Patta lands, 751.64 acres are endowment lands, and 24.85 acres are Wakf board lands. There are tanks are in 1,654.31 acres, hills comprise 2,140.20 acres,

Assigned lands are 2,270.88 acres, Donka, road, streams, canals among others are in 10,583.63 acres , Gramakantam lands are 663.02 acres.

Of the agricultural land 38,692 acres are dry and 775 acres are wet. In the total agricultural land, paddy is cultivated in 12,821 acres, cotton in 11,675 acres, banana in 3,113 acres, chillies in 2,023, sugarcane in 502.90, and turmeric in 332, double crops in 3,671, mixed crops in 3,494 and garden crops in 1,836 acres.
