Gang of eight rapes woman labourer, held
Hyderabad: The Jeedimetla police has arrested an eight-member gang for allegedly raping a 30 year old woman.
The accused befriended the victim at a palm wine shop, got her drunk and raped her at an isolated place about a week ago. The victim who is a labourer is a divorcee and stays at Chintal.
The accused are Rajesh, Rishi Pavan, Kiran, Ravi Teja, Ganesh, Brahmam, Mahboob and Praveen, all aged between 22 and 26, and are residents of Quthbullapur. They accused are small time private employees and labourers.
Police said the accused were aware of the status of the victim who used to seek alms from the public. On November 13 she went to consume palm wine at a shop in Chintal and the group met her there.
Taking advantage of her being alone they befriended and bought her drinks. When the victim became drunk, they took her to an open plot near HMT in Jeedimetla and raped her.
“The gang took turns in raping the victim. At first four of them sexually exploited her and later called the others on the phone to the spot. They too raped her,” said inspector A. Chandra Shekar.
After the rape the gang fled the spot and the victim who regained consciousness realised what had happened.
Based on her complaint on November 14, a case under The Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, was registered. The accused were arrested and they confessed the crime. They were produced in court and remanded on Thursday.
