Excise department police constable held for KBR park firing

Obulesu, who was repatriated from the Greyhounds earlier, had escaped to Kurnool

Hyderabad: The police on Thursday detained 37-year-old R. Obulesu, a police constable of the excise department, who is the prime suspect for Wednesday’s KBR Park shooting.

A team of task force officials and a special team apprehended Obulesu from a private lodge in Kurnool, where he was hiding. The team has also questioned three women, who are suspected to have helped him. Sources from Hyderabad police said that an assistant sub-inspector, who had communicated with Obulesu while he was on the run, has also been questioned.

Officials said that Obulesu, who was repatriated from the Greyhounds earlier, had escaped to Kurnool, from where he was planning to go to Karnataka or another state. However, the police tracked his mobile phone when he received a call from another police officer who was his acquaintance. He will be brought to Hyderabad by early morning on Friday.
