ACP kin attacks woman, booked
Hyderabad: A case was registered against Sultan Bazaar ACP T.S. Ravi Kumar’s family for allegedly beating up a woman from the neighborhood over a parking row on Thursday. However, the ACP denied the allegations.
The incident occurred at Prashanth Apartments in Humayun Nagar where the ACP’s family and the victim (complainant) Sowjanya Kamal stay.
Sources said a fight over a parking space led to the incident. Mr Ravi Kumar’s brother-in-law who came to the parking area in the apartment complex noticed that Sowjanya’s car was parked in front making it difficult to take his car out. He reportedly asked her to remove the car and make way. Eventually they had an argument which ended in a scuffle.
Inspector S. Ravinder said in her complaint Sowjanya said that following the argument, the ACP’s family including his wife, children and brother-in-law assaulted her. She sustained minor injuries and was shifted to hospital. Her condition is stable.
Mr Ravinder said a case was registered under sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage modesty), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) and 323 (Punishment for causing hurt) and is being investigated under the supervision of Asifnagar ACP.
The accused have been questioned and they have denied the allegations. The complaint is being verified, officials said.
Meanwhile, ACP T.S. Ravi Kumar too denied the allegations. “She is mentally unstable and it is learnt it was she who attacked our family.
She is being treated for illness and often exhibits such behaviour. These are baseless allegations. My wife doesn't even step out of the house, but her name too was given in the complaint,” Mr Ravi Kumar said.
Mr Ravi Kumar added that the woman was also a drug addict. Sources said that Sowjanya Kamal is a Telugu Desam leader and her husband Satish Kamal who is reportedly a senior journalist earlier worked as a reporter for regional TV news channels.
Following the incident, there was mild tension as some journalists protested in front of the Humayun Nagar police station condemning the incident and demanded action against those involved in the alleged attack.
