Sensex, Nifty rise to record; banks gain on Kotak-ING deal
Sensex is up by 1 per cent and Nifty is trading 0.97 per cent higher
Mumbai: The BSE Sensex and Nifty hit fresh record highs on Wednesday with banking stocks leading the gainers. The 30-share Sensex rose as much as 1.03 per cent to mark a record high of 28,358.91 while the broader Nifty gained as much as 1.04 per cent to hit a life high of 8,489.80.
The Sensex was up 1 per cent while the Nifty is trading 0.97 per cent higher. Kotak Mahindra Bank surged to a record high of 1,264.70 rupees after buying smaller rival ING Vysya Bank in a $2.4 billion share deal.
Axis Bank rose 2.33 per cent, IndusInd Bank was up 0.69 per cent, while HDFC Bank gained 1.69 per cent.
