YSRC to focus on Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation polls
Visakhapatnam: Long-pending crucial GVMC polls are going to be held anytime soon and YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy seems to have turned his focus towards Vizag.
He is going to participate in the state-wide dharna called for in city on Nov 5.
He is also going to hold a crucial meeting with district leaders on Nov. 21 to strengthen the cadre in the wake of senior leader Konatala Ramakrishna and others left the party.
Though polls are yet to be announced by the concerned, TD has already set its eye on the GVMC. Jagan’s decision to take part in the statewide dharna at Vizag assumes significance in the backdrop of GVMC polls that may be held soon.
It is also learnt that TD which was riding high on the response from the public with the restoration and relief works taken up by the state government post Hudhud, is looking at conducting these polls as early as possible.
Polls for GVMC were not held due to various issues raised out of the state government’s proposal to merge Anakapalle and Bheemili municipalities into GVMC.
There were no objections for the merger of Anakapalle municipality into GVMC, but a few locals of Bheemili municipality approached court opposing the merger move.
Of the total 72 wards, while the TD and its allies CPI and CPM had 35 corporators in last GVMC body, Congress was left with 26 after 11 of its corporators changed their loyalties to YSR Congress.
