Patrols by police ineffective at KBR Park
Hyderabad: The claim of the city police that they have specific crime patrolling teams at the KBR Park and surrounding areas has turned out to be bogus following the shooting incident.
After several thefts at the parking lots were reported earlier, police had said that they had deployed special teams around the park from 6 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 7 pm.
However, on Wednesday the armed man walked out in the open with an AK 47, opened fire and managed to flee.
Commissioner of police Mahender Reddy said that security would be further tightened around the park.
Earlier thieves would lurk around the park, aiming to steal valuables from the parked cars by breaking the side windows and windshields in the mornings. There have been five such cases in recent months wherein mobile phones, laptops and purses were stolen.
Last month another incident had rocked the area when around five sandalwood smugglers, who had tried to cut down a tree inside the KBR Park, had attacked police and forest officials.
Police claimed that on Wednesday morning, cops reached the spot within 15 minutes after they were alerted by locals and the victims. A team from Banjara Hills came to the spot following the emergency call.
Senior police officials meanwhile said that it was impossible to keep watch on every inch of the KBR Park as it was too big. However, they said fresh efforts would be made to strengthen security.
