No consensus yet on Intermediate exam
Telangana government has already sought legal opinion on the status of BIE
Hyderabad: The stalemate over Intermediate exams in the two states continued as the joint education ministers’ meeting with Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan ended without any consensus.
However, Mr Narasimhan is learnt to have proposed a joint committee for conducting the exams and even offered to intervene in case of any disagreement between the two sides. Both ministers said they will consult their respective Chief Ministers and revert.
Governor Narasimhan had convened a joint meeting of education ministers on Wednesday after meeting them separately on the previous day. Telangana education minister G. Jagadish Reddy is believed to have told the Governor that the Board of Intermediate Education would belong to the Telangana state since it is listed under the 10th Schedule and there is no question of bifurcation.
But the Board will offer its services to AP as per the Reorganisation Act. It was reported in these columns that Telangana government has already sought legal opinion on the status of BIE and other 10th Schedule institutions and is claiming complete authority over them.
However, with AP government’s fears over loss to students in Eamcet admissions, Governor Narasimhan is believed to have offered to constitute a joint committee of higher officials, under whose aegis Intermediate examinations would be held.
