Sri Lanka Tamils have demandes the speedy disposal of the cases pending against
Tiruchy: Seven Sri Lankan Tamils, lodged in the special camp jail located inside the central prison here, who have been observing a fast-unto-death since Saturday along with 19 other Sri Lankans, were shifted to the Annal Gandhi memorial government hospital, Tiruchy, on Wednesday, as their health condition deteriorated.
Official sources said they began their indefinite fast, demanding the speedy disposal of the cases pending against them. The SL tamils were facing criminal charges of illegal entry and were suspected to be LTTE sympathisers.
The prison authorities called in doctors to examine Lankan Tamils after they were suspected to have consumed an overdose of sleeping pills Tuesday. On the suggestion of doctors, seven of them were removed to Annal Gandhi memorial government hospital, where, according to hospital sources, their condition is stable. But 19 other Lankan Tamils continued their fast for the fifth day in succession.
