Congress walks out of House on ‘corrupt’ slur

There was a spat with the TRS legislators over the housing scam
Hyderabad: The Congress legislators walked out of the Assembly on Wednesday, after a spat with the TRS legislators over the housing scam. One of the Congress legislators even threw a headphone towards the Speaker’s podium while leaving.
Agriculture minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy attacked the Congress saying the party was the “most corrupt in the world in providing housing.” Leader of the Opposition K. Jana Reddy retorted saying the TRS can probe the matter and punish the culprits, but should refrain from making allegations.
Speaking on the demands for grants in housing, the Congress Alampur MLA A Sampath Kumar said the Congress government built about 42 lakh houses for the poor and the weaker sections in the state, while praising Indira Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.
An irked Pocharam Srinivas Reddy said, “The Congress has been the most corrupt in the world in the providing housing. Sampath Kumar is a young Legislator, but just because he has been given the microphone to speak, he shouldn’t talk whatever he wants.” This evoked angry retorts from the Congress.
Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao said, “The Congress legislators should go to Gandhi Bhavan if they want to praise their leaders.”
Leader of Opposition Mr K. Jana Reddy asked Mr Pocharam Srinivas Reddy to withdraw his “Congress the most corrupt” remark. Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy said the remarks would be erased from the records. However, the issue didn’t subside as Mr Sampath Kumar and Rasamai Balakishan exchanged heated words.
“The Congress built houses that didn’t even have windows and doors,” said Mr Balakishan. The Congress MLAs decided to walk out protesting. One of the Opposition MLAs even flung a headphone towards the Speaker’s podium. Mr Jana Reddy later said that they are not being allowed to speak in the Assembly.
