Guntur: The government is planning to relocate nearly 60-70 temples and other religious places for the capital. However, religious scholars say this would hurt the sentiments of the local people.
The government is planning to construct a six-lane road from Prakasam Barrage to the new capital in Tulluru and locals from various villages are worried over the relocation of temples for the new capital road.
The Anjaneya Swamy and Ramaylayam temples in Uddandarayunipalem, Ganga Parvati Sameeta Ramalingeswara, Ganesh and Veeranjaneya Swamy temples in Mandadam, and several other temples in the river front villages would be shifted for the capital road.
Ramalayam priest S. Raghurama Sastry feared that shifting the temples would bring bad luck. A few locals also said that people are sentimentally attached to temples in their area. There were suggestions that the state should consider the opinion of the people before shifting religious structures.
