Tribals stage protest at Varavara Rao’s house

The villagers alleged that the Maoists had killed many innocent villagers

Hyderabad: Around 60 people from the Veeravaram village in Visakhapatnam district of AP submitted a representation to Maoist ideologue Varavara Rao saying that they were being threatened by the Maoists. The villagers alleged that the Maoists had killed many innocent villagers and had asked them to leave the village. They requested Mr Varavara Rao to help them. On Wednesday, the delegation went to Varavara Rao’s house in Gandhi Nagar and submitted the representation. However, Mr Rao was not at home.

The delegation said that a villager named Sanjeeva Rao was killed by the Maoists on October 19. They said that he was a poor man who campaigned against liquor.

They said that due to threats they are unable to lead normal lives. They also alleged that the Maoists had killed two others and had asked their kin to leave. There was tension at Mr Rao’s house during the the protest. However, the villagers left after submitting their request.
