Top CBI officer is the mole: Ranjit Sinha to Supreme Court

The proceedings that lasted for over four hours saw high drama and heated exchanges

New Delhi: CBI director Ranjit Sinha Wednesday admitted to the Supreme Court that a senior IPS officer in his agency was the “mole” who gave documents and file notings to Prashant Bhushan on whose basis “false and baseless” allegations were made.

The proceedings that lasted for over four hours saw high drama and heated exchanges with counsel for Mr Sinha and Mr Bhushan losing their temper often, forcing the bench headed by Chief Justice H.L. Dattu to intervene. Senior advocate Vikas Singh submitted reports that the allegations levelled against Mr Sinha are baseless and false.

He said that the file notings and documents, on the basis of which, NGO — Centre for Public Interest Litigation, filed the petition seeking probe against the director, was supplied by a DIG-rank officer Santosh Rastogi.

“It is very clear that Rastogi is supplying all the information. He is the mole in the CBI,” Mr Singh submitted.

Mr Singh, however, did not give explanation on Mr Sinha’s frequent meetings with the various accused when senior advocate Dushyant Dave, appearing for Mr Bhushan and the NGO, said that the director himself had admitted the meetings in his interviews with the media.
