Three techies die in car mishap
The driver of the car dozed off due to which incident happened
Chennai: Three software professionals were killed and two others escaped with minor injuries, when the vehicle in which they were travelling home after work, lost control and rammed into a median on GST Road in Pallavaram on Wednesday morning.The driver had dozed off resulting in the accident. The driver was moving on the right side of the road when he lost control and smashed against the central median. The vehicle turned turtle before being dragging in motion for nearly 50 metres. It came to a halt on the side of the road after hitting a tree.
The deceased were identified as M. Suresh, 22, from Salem staying in Selaiyur, S. Anburaj, 23, from Tiruchy, staying in Chromepet and S. Arjun, a Nagerkoil native residing at East Tambaram. Driver Rajkumar, 21, escaped with minor injuries while another software professional Rithilal, 26, hailing from Jharkhand, has been admitted to a private hospital with serious injuries. All three who died were sitting on the foldable seats at the rear.
The accident on GST Road in Pallavaram occurred at around 4.15 am and within minutes, based on alerts from other motorists, ambulance, police, fire and rescue teams had arrived at the scene. Three of them died on the spot.According to police, the Tata Sumo vehicle, which met with the accident, was contracted to Xerago E Biz Services Pvt. Ltd in Nungambakkam, where all the victims worked. The vehicle left the office with eight people from office at 3.30 am and was heading for Tambaram to drop them. Three employees got down at Guindy and another one at Meenambakkam.
Around 4.15 am, the driver who reportedly dozed off rammed the car into the median, then the car rolled over and damaged a scrap shop before it came to a halt after hitting a tree. Raj Kumar was arrested based on the complaint from Ritilal for rash and negligent driving. According to S. Lakshmi, deputy commissioner, traffic (south), the car driver had dozed off behind the vehicle. “He said that he slept on the steering wheel and when he came to his senses, he saw the car was heading for the median. He tried to turn left, but by the time he had lost control,” she said. Police said that Raj Kumar who had been driving for the last two years was never involved in any accident.
