Actor Sarath Kumar warns Vishal of action for comments
Tiruchy: Popular actor Sarath Kumar, who heads the South Indian Film Artistes’ Association, warned his fellow actor Vishal on Wednesday that he would be removed from its primary membership if he did not stop making derogatory remarks about it.
“People like Vishal, who are eyeing the posts of office-bearers of the association, are making such unwarranted remarks,” he charged, speaking to reporters here.
“When the association was in deep financial crisis, I and my colleagues like Radha Ravi, Vijayakanth, Vijay and others contributed from our own pockets to revive it. Where were Vishal and the others who are as critical, at that time?” he asked.
Justifying the association’s decision to lease out its premises for 29 years and 11 months to a private film industry corporate, he said the move was intended to safeguard its interests as well as those of its charitable trust.
“At the end of the lease period, the trust will have a deposit of Rs 170 crore,” the actor said, adding that the trust’s major objective was to provide pension to stage and film artistes struggling to make ends meet.
