Is BCCI after Sharad Pawar, Shashank Manohar?
It was proposed last night that Manohar, Pawar & ISB be suspended
CHENNAI: Former BCCI president on Tuesday alleged that N. Srinivasan’s camp is hell bent on suspending him and two other ex-Board chiefs Sharad Pawar and Shashank Manohar.
“At an informal dinner meeting at Chennai, it was proposed last night that Manohar, Pawar & ISB be suspended for tarnishing image of the Board,” Bindra tweeted.
“Without consulting my colleagues, I can state on behalf of all three of us that we would welcome such foolhardy bravado by corrupt coterie,” he went on to add.
Bindra also said that, tongue-in-cheek, he felt “reassured by Jagmohan Dalmiya’s statement that he would be guided by Arun Jaitley’s advise in his future course of action in BCCI” “AJ can’t obviously support corrupt dispensation,” he said.
Bindra accused those who gave Srinivasan a clean chit of being ignorant, or having some vested interest. He added that Srinivasan had violated the ICC code of ethics and conduct, and should thus be debarred from holding any position in the ICC/Board.
“An administrator whose job is to take cognizance of infringements of law is guilty of abetment under penal code, if he looks the other way,” Bindra said.
BCCI refuses to change its stand:
The mood in the BCCI now is such it is planning to take penal action against “unscrupulous elements” who are aiming at destabilising the working of the BCCI and who have dragged the board to the top court.
The names of three former BCCI presidents are being mentioned in this regard. The much anticipated final word of the court is expected to be pronounced on November 24, the date of the next hearing of the case involving the IPL betting, sport and match-fixing scandals.
Earlier on Tuesday, Raman was given the opportunity to defend himself at the Working Committee meeting held in Chennai. The committee decided to back him, saying, “The members heard his explanation and decided that the Board should support Mr Sundar Raman to represent himself before the Supreme Court.”
A senior BCCI member and former president and ICC chief who did not attend Tuesday’s meeting had informally sought action against Raman on the same lines as that taken against Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra, IPL franchise owners who were banned from the game for activities detrimental to the game’s image.
The members of the pro-Srinivasan group, who met informally on Monday night and Tuesday morning and strategised on various issues facing the BCCI in the Supreme Court, decided to put their weight behind the IPL official who is also on the BCCI representative on the ICC’s Integrity Working Party.
Seen as the BCCI’s enforcer who made all other cricketing nations agree to a revolutionary revenue sharing model with a lion’s share going to India, Raman is considered the most powerful cricket administration personality after the ICC chairman N. Srinivasan.
