Water level in Mullaperiyar dam at 141.4 feet
Kottayam: As the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam stood at 141.4 feet, the district administration has taken precautionary measures to face any emergency situation.
Idukki distirct collector Ajith Patil visited the dam on Tuesday and interacted with the officials in charge of the dam. Mr Patil also visited Ayyappan Kovil and Vandiperiyar panchayats and talked to the presidents on the emergency steps to be taken.
Mr Patil told DC that he would not comment regarding the safety of the dam, since the Kerala government had approached the Supreme Court demanding to lower the water level.
On Tuesday, the flow of the seepage water from the dam increased to 150.16 litres per minute. On Monday, it was 144.4 per minute.
The five-member Mullaperiyar sub-committee chaired by U.H. Gireesh, Kerala’s representatives George Daniel and N.S. Praseed and Tamil Nadu’s representatives Madhavan and Soundarrajan visited the dam and later held a meeting at Kumaly.
Meanwhile, the head of the apex committee on Mullaperiyar Mr LAV Nathan had warned Tamil Nadu against the indiscriminate rise of water level in the dam without any concern for safety of the dam and people.
