AP Cabinet renames Rajiv Aarogyasri scheme as the NTR Vaidyaseva

Insurance cover hiked from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh for each family

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has decided to rename the Rajiv Aarogyasri scheme as the NTR Vaidyaseva and increase the insurance cover from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh for each family.

The Cabinet has also added 100 more diseases that will be covered, taking the number of ailments covered under NTR Vaidyaseva from 938 to 1,038. Earlier, the AP government had also named the drinking water scheme after NTR, calling it NTR Sujala Sravanthi.

The AP Cabinet meeting was held on Tuesday at the Secretariat following which information and public relations minister Palle Raghunath Reddy said that the government would develop primary health centres, community health centres and district hospitals with the necessary equipment and appoint the required medical staff.

He added that under NTR Vaidyaseva, people could get treatment in government hospitals too, and if necessary, specialist doctors from outside would be consulted and the government would pay the fees.

The minister said that under the skill development programme, the government would bring changes to improve the quality of education.

He also said that at one engineering college in every district, 1,000 students would undergo training in skill development.

He added that the syllabus in schools, colleges, polytechnic and ITI colleges would also be changed.
