Another Chief Secretaries meet to resolve issues

The second meeting too may just hear arguments from both the states

Hyderabad: Anil Goswami, the Union home secretary, has convened the second apex council meeting of the chief secretaries of Telangana state and Andhra Pradesh on November 28 to sort out contentious issues, including power and water sharing.

Telangana state CS Rajiv Sharma and AP chief secretary I.Y.R. Krishnarao are the members of the apex council that was constituted to resolve any dispute arising between the two states after the AP Re-Organisation Act came into being.

Official sources said there are five items on the meeting agenda Krishna water utilisation, especially from the Srisailam dam; scheduling of power among the states from the power generating stations; division of assets and liabilities; division of public sector undertakings and other institutions that were listed in 9th and 10th schedules of the Bifurcation Act; as well as granting more powers to the Governor under Section 8 of the Act.

Though one such meeting has already was held in the past, not a single issue was resolved then.

One senior official said, “The second meeting too may just hear arguments from both the states. Since all issues have been politicised, perhaps they can be resolved only at the CM level.”
