Telangana employees against CID probe in housing scam investigation
Hyderabad: The CID inquiry ordered by the Telangana government on the housing scam during the Congress regime (2004-14) has taken a new turn with Telangana employees opposing it tooth and nail. Telangana employees are up in arms against the state government for trying to make them ‘scapegoats’ in the name of CID inquiry while letting ministers, MLAs, sarpanches and officials, who selected the beneficiaries, go scot-free.
They said small employees were being harassed by the cops in the name of the CID inquiry since the last four months, despite knowing very well that they had no power to select beneficiaries and only construct houses as ordered by higher-ups.
They demanded the CID probe to be stopped against them and the government to order either a judicial inquiry or a probe with a committee comprising senior IAS officers. “The beneficiaries for the housing scheme were selected by ministers, MLAs, sarpanches and higher-level officials. But the CID police has been summoning only small employees of the Housing department for inquiry, who had no roles in selecting the beneficiaries.
The families of these employees are unnecessarily subjected to mental agony in the name of inquiry. Most of these employees are on the verge of retirement and they are being forced to run around police stations for no fault of theirs,” said C. Kondaiah, vice chairman of TS Housing Corporation Employees JAC.
The JAC met the floor leaders of all political parties in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday and urged them to come to their rescue during the debate on the housing scam in the House.
They said that the Congress government had taken up building houses for the poor under the Indiramma scheme on a massive scale from 2006, which led to irregularities. In the first phase, beneficiaries were selected irrespective of whether they possessed white ration cards. In the second phase, ration card was taken into consideration.
