Committee will take note of any harassment that women might suffer at police stations

Bengaluru: The sub-committee, which is looking into rapes and other atrocities on women and children, has decided to use social media to reach out to the victims and address the issue in some detail.
Speaking to reporters here after the first meeting of the committee, its chairperson, Ms Motamma said a 24X7 call centre would be set up to help women in distress in the districts and Facebook and e-mail used to contact them as well.
“We are working on creating a Facebook page and an e-mail account to allow women and children who are in trouble contact the sub-committee. They can also lodge their complaints directly at the chairperson’s office, should the local police not to repond to them properly,” she added.
The committee will take note of any harassment that women might suffer at police stations when going to report a rape or any kind of atrocity. “In such cases, the committee will recommend action against the police personnel,” Ms Motamma warned.
Determind to do a more detailed assessment of the situation in the state, the members have decided to visit the districts to learn of the ground realities in these parts. And a senior police officer, either retired or in service, will be appointed as nodal officer to monitor its work.
