London: A new study has shown that brewing up coffee for colleagues boosts chances of getting promoted at work.
The research by Russell Hobbs shows that 56 percent of workers are so unwilling to make their workmates a hot beverage that they sneak into the kitchen to make one just for themselves at least once a week, and one in five (19 per cent) do so more than once a day, the Daily Express reported.
While it can damage their social standing in the office, the person who does makes coffee for the work crew, is met with a smile and is often popular.
It also showed that one fifth said they didn't have enough time for others, while and a third (36 per cent) felt embarrassed by their bad tea-making skills. Also, one in seven (14 per cent) were just not bothered and a fifth believe their workmates to be so finicky that they preferred to make their own.
Corrine Sweet, Relationship Psychologist, said that since people get so stressed at work and in personal lives these days, a sneaking off to brew was actually a great way to get some "me" time, and people did it more when the under pressure.
However, not making a cup for others could create resentment in the office, and even end up blocking a promotion, she added.
