DC Clean Drive Contest: Pick up the broom and shovel and attack the dirt
WHY are some contributions not appearing in Clean Drive? Because this is a contest run by DC. We will not be publishing your effort at Swachh Bharat. We are accepting entries for Part-II of Clean Drive now.
Dirty road? Unclean bus-stop? Trashy park? Don’t complain.
Take matters in your hand. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown the way. Just pick up the broom and the shovel and attack the dirt. Join DC’s Clean Drive contest, and be a winner.
WHO CAN JOIN IN?
- Just about everyone. A family, a group of residents in a colony, a bunch of friends, private companies, schools, offices. In fact, all the people who are willing to get their hands dirty for a clean city.
HOW TO ENTER THE CONTEST?
- Send us ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures of the place that your group has cleaned, a brief description, details of the spot like street number, nearest landmark, and details of one contact person
- Pictures can be sent in .jpg, .pdf or .doc formats, details in .doc or .pdf files
- Mail to cleansweep@deccanmail.com, info@deccanmail.com or Editor@deccanmail.com. use ‘Clean Drive’ in the subject box

WHAT CAN YOU DO?
- Clean up! Practically every corner of the city is crying for attention. It could be a park with dense shrubs. A roadside littered with trash. Footpath and road covered with building debris. People dumping trash on the roadside.
- Form a group. Or by yourself, clean the place and put in a mechanism to ensure that it is not trashed again.
- Remember: We are looking for public places to be cleaned. Not residential or school compounds or individual floors in apartments.

Evaluation
Teams from Deccan Chronicle will visit the area cleaned up by every applicants and evaluate the work. In this we will be guided by professionals in civic affairs. The winners will be decided by a panel of distinguished persons.
Celebrating your efforts
On the second and fourth Mondays of every month during the course of the contest, DC will publish some top performers in the preceding fortnight.
Is there a prize?
Yes. It is a surprise. But, remember. The bigger prize will be a cleaner city for all of us. And a cleaner nation.
IMPORTANT:
DC’s evaluation teams will make surprise visits, without intimation to the participants. Also, the teams will not visit the same day, so it is important that participants must ensure that the area remains clean.
