IPL teams Chennai Super Kings & Rajasthan Royals face termination

Any official / player found guilty of corrupt practices of franchise, it may be terminated

Chennai: The Mudgal report’s revelation could well be the last nail on the coffins of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. As the report has indicted franchisee officials Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra, it looks impossible for the two teams to survive the termination clause.

As per the IPL franchise agreement 11.3, if any official or player part of a franchise is found to be guilty of corrupt practices in managing affairs of the franchise, it stands the risk of termination.

Former India cricketer Kirti Azad, who has been a staunch critic of the IPL, called for the termination of the two teams. “It’s been confirmed that Gurunath as a franchise official and not a mere “enthusiast” who hung around Chennai Super Kings. The report suggests he did indulge in illegal betting,” said Azad.

The report also confirmed that Kundra was “in touch with bookies”. The investigation into his activities was “abruptly and without reason stopped by the Rajasthan Police upon receiving case papers from Delhi Police”, according to the report.
