New Delhi: The BCCI on Tuesday said that the allegations against ICC Chairman N Srinivasan were baseless and have decided to back IPL COO Sundar Raman, who has been indicted by the Supreme Court in connection with the IPL spot-fixing case.
Post their emergency meeting held on Tuesday the BCCI said they had heard Sundar Raman's version and on being satisfied, they decided to put their weight behind him when he puts his case forward in the Supreme Court.
On being asked whether the BCCI doesn't have any issues with Raman speaking to bookies, BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel told the reporters to read the report properly.
With regards to Raj Kundra and Gurunath Meiyappan, BCCI said their fate would be decided by the Supreme Court.
The meeting, which began at 4:30pm, is said to have been attended by all top BCCI officials. Meanwhile, the BCCI AGM has now been postponed to December 17.
Earlier, in its report to the Supreme Court, the Mudgal committee said IPL COO Sundar Raman remained in touch with bookies. Sundar Raman knew a contact of a bookie and had contacted him eight times in one season, the panel added.
The report said even though Srinivasan was not involved in any sort of fixing scandal, he along with four other BCCI officials was aware of ICC's code of conduct being broken by a player and yet didn't take any action.
On Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan, the report said that he did meet a bookie in his hotel room but there is no evidence of his involvement in betting. "Investigations have confirmed that this individual was an official of the Chennai (Super Kings) team franchise. There is no material available on record to show that this individual was involved in match-fixing," it said.
Another big name which was indicted by the court was that of Raj Kundra – Rajasthan Royals' co-owner, who was found to be in touch with bookies and taking bets in violation of the BCCI's anti-corruption code.
