Hyderabad High Court seeks Anti Corruption Bureau report in a week
Hyderabad: Constant monitoring by the Hyderabad High Court has compelled the Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh governments to sanction prosecution of public servants involved in corruption.
Both the states government on Monday submitted before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar that they sanctioned prosecution of the officers involved in corruption.
The bench was dealing with the petitions by O.M. Debara, a resident of the city and P.V. Krishnaiah, a practising advocate in the HC, against the liquor syndicate scam.
The bench directed ACB counsel to file a report within a week confirming that the ACB had received sanctions from both governments. According to V. Ravi Kiran Rao, special public prosecutor for ACB, as many as 42 cases of involvement of officers and employees of Telangana State were pending with the state as on February 26, 2014. In the case of AP, 36 cases were pending. He said ordered were already issued against the public servants involved in the scam.
Plea against Araku MP
The AP Scheduled Tribes Employees’ Welfare Association on Monday moved the Hyderabad High Court challenging the Caste status of Kothapalli Geeta, YSRC MP from Araku Parliament seat.
The association, represented by its president E. Anjaneyulu and another person urged the court to set aside the election of Ms Geeta as she does not belong to the Valmiki Caste of SR category. They said that Geeta was born at Thimmapuram village of Addateegala mandal in East Godavari district and she belongs to Christian Adiandhra Caste which comes under Backward Class ‘C’ category.
They said that her original name was Gladys Jacob and she later changed her name as Kothapalli Geeta and got it notified through a gazette in 2002.
High Court to examine KGBV PROBE
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar on Monday decided to examine a plea for a CBI probe into alleged misuse of funds allotted to Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Telangana and alleged illegalities in recruitment of special officers on contract basis to run the Vidyalaya.
P.V.S.K. Chakravarthy, who appeared as party in person before the bench, submitted that he had complained to the CBI for a probe into irregularities in Vidyalaya on September 1, 2014, based on proceedings issued by the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Society on March 20, 2014.
He urged the HC to direct officials to discontinue contract employees to continue the special officers on contract Basis, and to take up permanent recruitment s for strengthening the education System in KGBV.
The bench issued notices to the CBI and other respondents directing them to file their affidavits within two weeks.
