Woman attempts to end life at land pooling meet
VIJAYAWADA: The Cabinet sub-committee meet on land pooling at Nidamarru in Mangalagiri mandal and Venkatapalem in Tulluru mandal on Monday turned chaotic.
The meet at Nidamarru was disrupted soon after it had started, as a woman tried to commit suicide by consuming pesticide during the meeting.
This angered the remaining farmers and the agricultural labours started protesting against the proposed land pool scheme.
This resulted in noisy scenes and the efforts of the sub-committee members, as well as the officials, to pacify the agitators failed. Finally, the meeting ended abruptly.
Similarly, the meeting at Venkatapalem literally became a battlefield with the supporters and opponents of the land-pooling scheme raising slogans against each other.
But, those who were against land-pooling outnumbered the supporters. They were not in a mood to buy the explanations of the Tadikonda MLA Tenali Sravan Kumar, who tried his best to convince them.
They asked the committee members and Mr Sravan Kumar to leave the village, which ended the meet without any further discussion.
