Weak doors of buildings give easy access to burglars

People more focused on interiors than strong doors

ADILABAD: Adilabad police have found that ‘weak doors’ of buildings were giving easy entry to burglars in the last couple of months. As many as six burglaries, including that of a jewellery shop, were reported from Adilabad town and its surrounding areas in the last one-and-a-half month.
Police found that house owners were concentrating more on interior decoration than on the strength of the doors and windows, which provide the much-needed security to houses.
In all the burglaries, police found that robbers gained entry into buildings through main doors as they were not strong . In many cases, the doors were found to be readymade ones of different materials but not wood.
Earlier, wooden doors with strong iron supporters and hinges would be fixed into the bricks of the wall in such a way that breaking them or removing them used to be very hard.
Surprisingly, police found that not just doors of independent houses and apartments but even jewellery shops were also weak and that they could be easily broken or removed enabling robbers to decamp with valuables worth crores of rupees.
In the last one-and-a-half month, two houses were burgled at Ramnagar area and two in Sanjaynagar Colony and one in Teachers colony and a jewellery shop at Ashoknagar in Adilabad town.
Additional SP D. Joel Davis said they found the burglars easily gained entry into the houses and jewellery shop by breaking open the main doors as the door frames were not fixed properly.
The SP appealed to the people to ensure that doors on the outer side of the houses were strong so as to prevent robberies. He urged people to take all precautions while leaving their houses and going out of station or outdoors.
