Telangana State to work closely with Centre
CM to personally invite PM for inauguration of NTPC unit function in December
Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has been making steady moves to get closer to the NDA government at the Centre.
After adopting a “confrontational attitude” with the Centre even before taking charge as Chief Minister on June 2 by calling a “Telangana bandh” in May over the Union Cabinet clearing the Polavaram ordinance merging seven mandals of Telangana into Andhra Pradesh and calling another bandh after the Lok Sabha passed the ordinance in July, Mr Chandrasekhar Rao is now giving indications of his intention of getting closer to the Centre in general and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in particular.
Mr Rao utilised the opportunity of the NDA government appointing “Telangana biddalu” (sons of Telangana), Mr Ch. Vidyasagar Rao as governor of Maharashtra and Mr Bandaru Datta-treya as Union minister for labour and was quick to arrange a grand civic reception for both leaders.
Both BJP leaders reciprocated favourably and promised Mr Chandrasekhar Rao to arrange a meeting with Mr Modi to resolve all contentious issues with regard to the bifurcation.
Mr Chandrasekhar Rao has entrusted the responsibility of building cordial relations with the Centre to Dr Samudrala Venugopala Chary, former MP and special representative of the Telangana government at New Delhi. And Mr Chary, in turn, has been frequently meeting Union ministers and officials at the Prime Minister’s Office and briefing them on the issues and concerns of Telangana.
“The relations with the Centre have definitely improved. We have extended an invitation to Mr Modi to lay the foundation for the NTPC power plant in Khammam next month. PMO officials informed that Mr Modi has responded positively and has assured to attend the programme,” Mr Chary said.
Though Mr Modi was invited for the International Mayors meet in Hyderabad held in October, he did not turn up and the strained relations between both the governments were said to be the reason.
The sudden change in KCR’s stand is being viewed by political analysts as a last resort to get assistance from the NDA government for Telangana, which is reeling under severe power crisis and debts.
Even in the ongoing Legislative Assembly session, Mr Chandrasekhar Rao has been showing a clear leaning towards the BJP members.
