Sachin Tendulkar's village Puttamrajuvari Kandriga to fight vices
Nellore: Sachin Tendulkar called upon the residents of Puttamrajuvari Kandriga, which he adopted on Sunday under the Union government’s Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna scheme, to keep away from smoking, drinking and gambling.
The master blaster received a warm welcome when he visited the tiny village with a population of 399 people and 165 households located in Gudur mandal of SPSR Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday morning.Sachin has embarked on a mission to develop this spot a year after retiring from cricket
Sachin made the locals take an oath to desist from tobacco, liquor and gambling and contribute to the development of the village as envisaged by Mahatma Gandhi.
He advised addicts to spend more time with their families after working at the community centre, which was being built, to steer clear of bad habits. He also told them to use natural resources without any community or caste bias. Sachin adopted the village a year after he retired from cricket. A pylon was unveiled to mark the laying of foundation stones for development schemes such as the building of a community centre, toilets, roads and giving a facelift to the village tank at an estimated cost of Rs2.79 crore from his MP Local Area Development Scheme funds. He released fish seed in a pond as part of a revenue generation programme for development projects in the village.
