Rahul Nair alleges Sreelekha, Manoj pressured him

VACB collected mobile phone call records of Nair

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) will soon register a case against former Pathanamthitta district police chief Rahul R.Nair as a preliminary probe has found the allegation that the IPS officer had accepted a bribe of Rs 17 lakh from quarry owners was prima facie true.

Nair who is now serving as Malabar Special Police commandant is also likely to be placed under suspension. Meanwhile, Rahul Nair is learnt to have mentioned in his statement that there was pressure on him from Transport Commissioner ADGP R. Sreelekha and IG Thiruvananthapuram-Range, Manoj Abraham, to favour the quarries.

But the two officers have denied the charge. The VACB collected mobile phone call records of Nair which confirmed that he had frequently contacted quarry owners and a middleman who allegedly collected the bribe on behalf of the police officer.

He also allegedly flouted the procedures for closing quarries and they were closed citing flimsy reasons.

The alleged unholy nexus of Rahul R.Nair was exposed by ADGP Intelligence, A.Hemachandran, after some quarry owners came up with a complaint against the IPS officer.

Based on a report of Hemachandran, the Government ordered a Vigilance probe and removed Nair as Pathanamthitta district police chief and posted him as MSP Commandant in June.
