Major political parties have started a membership drive in Telangana
Nizamabad: Major political parties have started a membership drive in Telangana for the first time after formation of the new state.
The Congress, Telugu Desam and BJP have already started membership drives. Interestingly, the TD introduced online membership drive and us providing insurance cover to its members. Party leaders are giving importance to these drives to strengthen their base in the newly formed state.
Moving ahead forward, Telugu Desam high command urged its active and general members to renew their membership online along with Aadhar cards. It has offered Rs 2 lakh insurance coverage to the members, who enrolled their names. TD has strong cadre base in Telangana districts, but due to changed political scenario, the party is taking precautions for membership drive.
Speaking to this newspaper, TD district unit convener, MLC Arikela Narsa Reddy said that as per the norms of Election Commission they will complete membership drive in November and December months. “Full pledged district body will elected after completion of membership drive” he added. Replying to a question, he said that party activists attracted to the insurance coverage and they have enrolling details as did in united Andhra Pradesh presently.
Meanwhile, Congress party started its membership drive at Kamareddy on Saturday. District Congress Committee president Taher Bin Hamdan enrolled former minister, MLC Mohammad Ali Shabbir as first member. The party senior leaders had already suggested their followers and mandal level leaders to complete the membership drive. On the other hand, Congress leadership is replacing the party leaders in mandals and towns if they found inactive in party programmes or involved in anti party activities.
BJP conducted a meeting on membership in Nizamabad on Sunday. Party national executive committee member N.Indrasena Reddy, former MLA Y.Lakshminarayana, party district president Palle Ganga Reddy and other senior leaders were present.
Following the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amith Shah, the leadership is trying to strengthen the party by 2019 general elections.
