Iyer opened doors of justice for oppressed: Governor P Sathasivam
KOCHI: Justice V.R Krishna Iyer’s timely intervention and interpretation opened the doors of justice to the oppressed class, remarked Governor P. Sathasivam.
He was addressing a meeting to honour Justice Iyer during his centenary birthday celebration organised by the Kerala High Court Advocates’ Association and Justice Krishna Iyer Centenary Celebration Committee here on Sunday.
“His expertise in legal and political fields is well spoken off, but if there is one characteristic that would individualize Justice Iyer among other legends is that he always handled issues with an insightful humanistic approach,” the Governor observed.
Addressing another meeting in Kochi opposition leader V.S. Achuthanandan has said that Justice Iyer was a person who believed that law becomes meaningful when it comes to the aid of the ordinary human beings. Justice Iyer is the hope of the marginalized sections of the society, he added.
According to the Governor, Justice Iyer always strived to evolve a consensus on the issues involved and tried to explore strategies to promote peace. “His innovative interpretation of statutes and development of poverty jurisprudence and third world vision of social justice have won wide appreciation,” he added.
Justice Chalameswar, Supreme Court judge, Justice Ashok Bhushan, acting Chief Justice of Kerala High Court and several others attended a slew of celebrations held in the city honouring Justice Iyer.
