High on faith: Tallest Krishna temple soon in Vrindavan
The 70-storey temple will have a footprint of about five acres
Vrindavan (UP): Five years from now, the holy land of Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh will boast of the world’s largest and first “skyscraper” temple for Lord Krishna, towering over 700 feet on a sprawling campus that will also have recreated verdant forests of some 500 years ago.
The temple, Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir, has been conceptualised by the devotees of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon), Bengaluru.
President Pranab Mukherjee laid the foundation stone for the temple on Sunday by participating in the “anata sesha puja” which marked the placing of Lord Ananta Shesha beneath the foundation of the proposed skyscraper temple. The temple will have a capsule elevator to take visitors from the ground level to the viewing gallery at the top, which will give an immersive 3D sound and light experience of different planetary systems as described in the Vedic literature.
A Krishna Lila Theme Park will be built on the sprawling campus that will include themed storytelling areas, musical fountains, garden lawns and water features. There are plans to build a Krishna Heritage Museum, Bhagvad Gita expo, lecture halls and a centre for Krishna heritage studies inside the proposed skyscraper temple.
The 70-storey temple will have a footprint of about five acres and will host festivals and religious activities throughout the year.
