Folk songs in support of Janu’s standing protest

Nadanpattu samithi expresses solidarity

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A folk song artiste in the State has come up in support of the Adivasi strike led by Adivasi Gothra Sabha leader C.K. Janu.

Kerala Nadanpattu Aikya Dardya Samithi, the organisation of professional folk song artistes, has decided to start all folk song programmes by singing a song in solidarity with Nilpu Samaram led by tribal leader C.K.Janu.

Apart from that, troupes performing folk songs have also decided to organise corner programmes in support of the Nilpu Samaram in all regions of the State, said N. Santhosh Kumar, one of the leaders of the samithi.

Ajith Kumar A.S., another member of the samithi said that its members had visited the venue of the Nilpu Samaram in front of the Secretariat to perform in support of the struggle.

It should be remembered that the Adivasis has been performing folk songs and folk dances almost on a daily basis during the strike.

The ‘samaram' had been receiving support from the cultural field with many artistes and writers including Tamil poet and filmmaker, Leena Manimekala and Malayalam poet K. Satchidanandan expressing solidarity with the strike by visiting the venue.

A group of film personalities including Aashiq Abu, Mythili Balachandran, Srinda, Sreenath Bhasi and Pearle Maaney have also expressed their solidarity with the tribal strike after visiting the venue.
