Bengaluru ATM attack victim Jyothi Uday keen to celebrate daughter’s birthday
Last year she was fighting for her life after being attacked inside an ATM kiosk
Bengaluru: It’s been a year since Jyothi Uday survived a brutal attack in the ATM kiosk on JC Road when she was withdrawing money. Today, she still has to collect herself to walk a long distance and stand on her feet for hours. But life is moving on for the Corporation Bank manager.
“She is recovering but our memories of that fateful day have still not faded,” recalls Jyothi’s husband, Uday, as he picks Jyothi’s phone to speak to Deccan Chronicle. Hesitant to talk to the media, he continues, “Jyothi has stopped answering calls after the incident. She gets tired easily and cannot engage in long conversations.”
Though Jyothi has returned to work, she has to visit hospital every month to undergo medical check ups. Following the incident, Jyothi, who was the manager of Corporation Bank’s Mission Road branch, was transferred to the Raja Rajeshwarinagar branch. “It is close to home and our family members are present round the clock to take care of her,” revealed Uday.
When asked if Jyothi was going to ATMs after the incident, Uday said, “Life did not stop for us after the incident. She is a brave woman and is battling the odds of life for her family. She goes to ATMs but is more cautious. Further more, she also advises all our friends and relatives to be careful and never enter an ATM alone. She asks them to be accompanied and make sure to enter an ATM which has a security guard.”
He feels upset about the assailant not being nabbed even a year after the incident. “The police had picked up two persons and they turned out be innocent. I can just say it is bad luck that he is not yet caught. She, however, is ready to identify the attacker if he is nabbed,” Uday said.
As Uday remembers this tragic incident he adds that the family is looking forward to celebrate their daughter Aatmika’s birthday on November 22. “Last year, Jyothi was fighting for life unconscious of her daughter’s birthday. In fact, she was attacked when she went to withdraw cash to purchase clothes for Aatmika for her birthday. This year, we have two reasons to celebrate the day - one, Jyothi is back with us and life seems to be normal again after a trying year. We plan it to celebrate the day with close family and friends.”
