A spray of aqua and sea green with embellishments that resembled sea shells and dragonfly prints, was how Pankaj and Nidhi presented their new collection Glasshouse by the Sea at the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour in the city. “With bougainvillea prints and mirrored embellishments, we have tried to represent the seaside,” said Pankaj.
Pankaj and Nidhi as a brand have seen phenomenal success in the past five years. And Pankaj gave an advice to budding designers, “I think youngsters are in a hurry to see their names on newspaper or television. Don’t be in a rush to start. I worked for 10 years before venturing out on my own and Nidhi too worked for six years. You need to know about all that happens behind the scenes.”
Pankaj and Nidhi’s association with Hyderabad too goes back a long way, with their collections being retailed by different stores in the city. And for the designers, the Hyderabadi market is quite fascinating. “The style here is more classic. Nobody is trying to prove a point here, the people usually opt for beautiful and elegant clothes. Just sitting in Delhi we can only think that our garment is beautiful, but the retailers are our bridge to the clients and they let us know what exactly works here,” he said.
And does he have a favourite celebrity to dress? “It might sound like a cliché, but it’s Deepika. The ease and honesty that she brings with her is fabulous.”
