Chhattisgarh sterilisation deaths: Heat on BJP to remove CM Raman Singh
A section of the state BJP unit is miffed with the CM for failing to fix accountability
New Delhi: Pressure is mounting on the BJP central leadership for a change of guard in Chhattisgarh following the sterilisation drive that killed more than 10 women and left more than 100 ill. Some feel if the party high command removes Raman Singh as Chhattisgarh Chief Minister, he could be shifted to Delhi to work in the organisation.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who visited Bilaspur to meet the victims on Saturday, accused the Raman Singh government of trying to “cover up” and said corruption had a “role” in the tragedy.
The state government has constituted a probe panel under a retired judge to investigate the botched surgeries and is also awaiting the chemical analysis report of the pills given to the victims after reports of traces of rodenticide in them.
Before embarking on a three-nation tour earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called Raman Singh and had asked him to ensure a thorough investigation and action. Mr Modi had also asked Union health minister J.P. Nadda to ensure the state government got all required assistance. A section of the state BJP unit is miffed with the CM for failing to fix accountability on the health minister.
