Sound & light show likely at Hampi Utsav

Once a show-stopper, the event was stopped in the past for reasons unknown

Ballari: This Hampi Utsav promises to be bigger and better with a sound and light show, “Vijayanagar Vaibhav” that promises to transport visitors to the era of the Vijaynagar empire from January 9 to 11 at the world heritage site.

Labour and district-in-charge minister, P.T. Parameshwar Naik said on Saturday that the song and drama division of the Union ministry of information and broadcasting, which organises the sound and light show, had agreed to hold the “Vijayanagar Vaibhav” during Hampi Utsav.

A seven-day event, featuring local artistes, it was one of the major attractions of the utsav in the past and people arrived in large number to watch it. But it was stopped a couple of years ago for reasons best known to the Union ministry.

Explaining the state government's plans for the festival, the minister said it intended to organise the Hampi Utsav as a ‘Janotsava, ’ a people’s festival this year. “We will ensure that Hampi Utsav 2015 is organised on a grand scale,” he added.
