‘Bra’jewelled oomph

Here are some of the most expensive inner wear crafted to protect your assets

Pure Gold Lingerie, China ($26,000)

Made over a period of four months by four different craftsmen in a jewellery store in Shenyang City in China, this gold set is resplendent. Carved from 950 gm of pure yellow gold, the workmanship on this set is said to be intricate and very superior. Well, it probably should be if it comes at the price that is does. With a thin gold chain joining the two pieces and more gold chains acting as thong strings, the two-piece set is delicate and shiny. It’s the cheapest of them all in this, list but also the only one made of pure gold.

Victoria’s Secret Sexy Splendour Bra ($12 million)

Gisele Bundchen and Victoria’s Secret upped the super expensive sexiness quotient when she modelled the leading lingerie makers Sexy Splendour Bra. Made of 18-carat white gold and boasting 2,900 pave-set diamonds and 22 rubies, the sparkle of the bra was undoubtedly the 101-carat pear-shaped diamond that dangled tantalising as a centrepiece. The gems were from the House of Mouawad that has been in the high-end jewellery trade in Europe since 1890.

Diamond bikini by Susan Rosen ($30 million)

When model Molly Sims posed for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in a Susan Rosen-designed diamante two-piece, men and women around the world let out a collective gasp. Rosen shot to global fashion notoriety with the two-piece that was made with Steinmetz Diamonds, is the most expensive bikini in the world with a price tag of $30 million and contains more than 150 carats of D Flawless diamonds, including some of the rarest pear-shaped diamonds in the world weighing in at 51 carats, in addition to a 31-carat emerald cut. Set in strings made of platinum, the bikini is of the most minimalist variety one can find in the two-piece segment.

Victoria’s Secret Red Hot Fantasy Bra ($15 million)
This is recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most expensive item of lingerie ever created. Decorated with a total of 1,300 gemstones, 300 carats of Thai rubies make this itsy-bitsy number a record holder. Compared to a lot of two-pieces that make it to this list, the diamond and ruby combination is bright but more subdued than one would imagine. It is bold and elegant in equal measure and looks every bit worth the lefty price tag it comes with.
Anamika Khanna’s ORRA diamond bustier ($1.3 million)
The only Indian making it to this coveted list is Anamika Khanna who designed a stylish $1.3 million diamond bustier for ORRA. While a model has flaunted the bustier at a fashion show, it was made more famous when Malaika Arora-Khan wore it with a red sari at a jewellery exhibition in Delhi. Crafted with over 500 carats of Belgian diamonds, this one is breathtaking to look at and certainly the most wearable of this precious list!
