Watch: Recalling double ODI hundreds, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag
Mumbai: On Thursday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, India batsman Rohit Sharma scripted history. He registered his second double hundred in one-day internationals. He is the present but that doesn’t make us forget the past.
Let’s go down the memory lane and celebrate the cricketers who could dare such a feat in ODIs. India should be feeling proud for only three batsmen have surpassed the 200-run mark and all of them are Indian cricketers.
The first one to enter the club was none other than Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. He was unbeaten on 200 (147) against South Africa in Gwalior, 2010. The legend hit three sixes and 25 boundaries.

The next to do so, rather who outdid him, was his protégé Virender Sehwag. The Nawab of Najafgarth, the then opener for India, hit 219 (149) against West Indies in Indore which included seven sixes and 25 boundaries. Surprisingly, he had Rohit Sharma for company at the other end when he raised his bat after scoring the double hundred.

Sharma achieved the milestone for the first time in 2013 against Australia at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. He scored 209 (158) that included 16 sixes and 12 boundaries. Mammoth, ain’t it?
