BJP trust vote: Shiv Sena meets Maharashtra Governor, terms it unfair
Sena members staged a protest in the morning blocking the road at Mulund
Mumbai: Questioning the Devendra Fadnavis led Maharashtra government’s legitimacy, Shiv Sena leaders on Thursday met Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao demanding that appropriate action be taken against the state government. Sena members staged a protest in the morning, blocking the road at Mulund. Party mouthpiece Saamana’s editorial also attacked the BJP for the unjust trust vote.
“Our delegation, led by Opposition leader Eknath Shinde, has reminded the Governor that this government is illegitimate as per the Constitution. When it has only 10 ministers, how have they fulfilled the provision of Article 164 of the Constitution,” senior Sena leader Diwakar Raote said. He was referring to a provision of the article which states that the strength of a council of ministers headed by the CM cannot exceed 15 per cent of the strength of the Assembly (the total number of MLAs) but it can’t be less than 12 members either.
Criticising the BJP on the same issue, the Sena alleged the state government had violated constitutional provisions. “The BJP had promised clean governance when they came to power. Forgetting all the promises made to the people, they have violated constitutional provisions while seeking a trust vote,” the Shiv Sena said.
