Provide amenities before skyscrapers: Telangana Opposition

BJP said CM's plan to build skyscrappers is ridiculous

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s dream of Malaysian Petronas Towers and skyscrapers around Hussainsagar Lake came in for criticism from Opposition parties.
BJP Floor leader K. Laxman said that it was because Hyderabad lacked basic amenities that a woman was swept away in a flooded drainage. He said the Chief Minister’s plan to build skyscrapers around Hussainsagar was ridiculous. He reminded that courts had banned pucca constructions around the lake adding that the government should focus on providing basic civic facilities.
TD Qutballapur legislator K.P. Vivekanand also the wanted government to focus on basic amenities in city before thinking about skyscrapers.
“We have no objection to Mr Rao’s skyscraper plan, but Hyderabadis urgently require basic amenities. It’s shocking a 26-year-old housewife Satyavani lost her life falling into a nala in Secunderabad. This is not the first case. Several people died like this,” he remarked.
Congress legislators Ms D.K. Aruna, Ms Padmavathi, Vamsi Chand Reddy demanded the government to restore the old system of white and pink ration cards with welfare schemes linked to it.
“Government decision to delink welfare schemes with ration cards is unacceptable to people. Rations cards should be issued merely for rice. It has to be linked to Arogyasri, housing, fee reimbursement, pensions etc. We have lodged a strong protest over government move and we will fight it out,” D.K. Aruna said while explaining reasons for her walkout.
Another senior Congress MLA G. Chinna Reddy said the FAST scheme slowed down hurting students. “We are unable to raise the reimbursement issue in Assembly,” he said.
