Art Station opens doors

Four artists from city take the initiative to display talent

Visakhapatnam: Vizag has got another art gallery “Art Station” that has thrown open its doors to art enthusiasts not just from the city but from all over the world. Started by four eminent artists from the city — Jumana Topiwala, Jaya Narasimha Rao, Dolly Dhillon and Latha Raja — Art Station is located alongside the picturesque RK Beach, just the place to display ones work.

With just a handful of galleries in the city, Jaya Narasimha Rao says, “Unlike the other galleries in the city, we want to fill in the gap by having art works of individuals or groups displayed at Art Station throughout the year. We would want to showcase the work of artists from around the world. Along with paintings, we would also display sculptures, photography and anything creative. Through our gallery, we wish to publicise work of every artist.”

With its inauguration, Art Station also hosted its very first exhibition.

“Since this is our first exhibition, we wanted to showcase Vizag artists. We have displayed the works of K.V.S. Prasad, G.S. Vasu, K.S. Kamesh and Uma. V. The exhibition will be open to public from November 15 to November 22 and the artworks are also put up for sale,” Jaya adds.

K. S. Kamesh, one of the artists, whose work has been displayed at the exhibition, says, “As of now, there are very less number of galleries in Vizag. A lot of artists are disappointed due to the lack of options to showcase their work. But, I am sure that with the opening of this gallery, more artists will be discovered in the city. And for artists like us, who have always exhibited our work in the one or two galleries before, it was so monotonous. Now I am hopeful that with this gallery, not only will our works be showcased, but we will also increase our circle of art lovers.”

Artists in and around the city are hopeful that the gallery would open more opportunities to showcase their talent.
