VS Achuthanandan asks Vinson to register Bargate FIR
Achuthanandan urged Vigilance Director to take over the probe
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan on Thursday urged Vigilance Director Vinson M Paul to take over the probe against Finance Minister K M Mani in connection with the bar bribe case.
In a letter to vigilance director the Opposition Leader sought registration of FIR under section 7, 13(i) of Prevention of Corruption Act and urged the director to initiate detailed probe. The veteran leader also replied to the questionnaire given by Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau SP Suresh Kumar in connection with the bribe case.
Mr Achuthanandan said he had sent the letter on November 1 to vigilance director seeking registration of FIR against Mani.
In such cases the preliminary investigations have to be completed within 15 days. However, the vigilance has violated Supreme Court norms by deciding to give a maximum of 45 days for the completion of the preliminary inquiry. This delay even makes a mockery of the term “quick verification” he added.
He said the quick verification was nothing but a ploy to derail the probe into the charges. The evidence given out by the print and electronic media was enough for registration of a case and for initiating a detailed probe, he added.
